I graduated in from Dartmouth with a double major in Earth Sciences and Chemistry. The opportunity to work with teachers and get their feedback on what does and does not work in their classrooms was the key point which drew me to SEPA. As a child growing up in public schools in Pittsburgh, I had no conception that the problems that drive much of the research I do now even existed, much less that it was accessible to me. I study snow and ice in the Arctic and Antarctic with the goal of improving our predictions of Climate Change and hence helping people around the world adapt to their changing environments. My work involves both collecting data in the field and then building conceptual models of how geophysical processes modify the environment, and I would like students to gain an appreciation of how data collection and model building work together to help us learn more about our world. Outside of work I am an avid outdoor person (mountain biking, hiking, skiing, whitewater kayaking, etc...), and I am pretty fond of board games and the Pittsburgh Penguins as well.
