I grew up in Easton, MA, about halfway between Boston and Providence, before attending Middlebury College in Vermont where I majored in Chemistry, minored in Physics and Mathematics, and ran on the track & field team. The summer before my senior year at Middlebury I did an exchange term here at Dartmouth doing research in the Chemistry Department, and consequently, I decided to come here for graduate school. My PhD research focuses on developing novel materials that can be used for temporary adhesion, connecting the molecular characteristics of materials to their macroscopic physical properties. I was interested in serving as a SEPA mentor because I am interested in science communication at all levels. I believe that having a strong foundational understanding of science is necessary regardless of a student’s eventual life path.
